Melbourne DJs, Soju Gang & Swerve Lead Fundraiser Livestream, Spinning in Solidarity, For Indigenous Justice

Melbourne DJs, including Soju Gang and Swerv, are hosting a livestream via Twitch to raise money for grassroots Indigenous causes on Monday, 8th June. The livestream is called Spinning in Solidarity and will be presented by Soju Gang and Swerv.

They’re aiming to raise $20,000 via GoFundMe. The funds from Spinning in Solidarity will be directed to the Joyce Carter memorial fund, as well as Warriors of the Aboriginal Resistance, Justice for David Dungay Jr. fund, and an emergency fundraiser supporting the family of Aunty Tanya Day.

Sharing the event via Instagram, Soju Gang said, “As we watch from afar the continued killing of the black community in the US, we mourn and seek justice for lives taken at the hands of those sworn to serve and protect. Yet at the same time, a dark reality is revealed, this is not an American issue – we do not sit on a higher moral ground as a country.

“Our Aboriginal and Torres Strait community face the same violence – and for too long we have ignored them. Their deaths go unnoticed and their fight for justice is swept aside. It’s time we stand up for our blak community here at home.”

Australians will also protest across the country this weekend, in solidarity with protests in the United States and calling for change on our own soil, centring around Australia’s own history of violence against Black and First Nations people. You can find a list of major protests around the country here.
