Melbourne will soon be home to a larger-than-life memorial in tribute to legendary former AC/DC frontman Bon Scott.
The permanent sculpture of the iconic rocker will (naturally) be erected in AC/DC Lane, exploding out of rock den Cherry Bar‘s brick wall to gaze down, like an angel from guitar heaven, upon thirsty punters in the laneway.
The majestic ‘Bas-Relief’ style concrete Bon effigy is a joint effort from Cherry’s owner and booker, James Young, and famed local street artist Mike Makatron, with support from the Victorian Government’s ‘Rockin’ The Laneways’ Initiative.
It will stand a glorious three metres high, two metres wide and protrude 15cm out of the wall, just as badass as Han Solo in Carbonite, except with more denim and chest hair.
“I’ve painted the laneway annually for about five years now – always a varied interpretation of the theme of music and it’s an honour to add a permanent 3D element that pays tribute to a great Australian rock and roll band and its lead singer Bon Scott, but also to music in general,” says Makatron.
The huge permanent tribute to the beloved Acca Dacca frontman, who died of alcohol poisoning in 1980, is set to be officially unveiled on Tuesday, 6th March at 11am.
