Melbourne Punks Pagan Have Announced They’re Calling It A Day

Written by Alex Gallagher on January 13, 2020

Melbourne hardcore punk outfit Pagan have announced they are no longer a band, taking to Facebook to share the news.

“With a heavy heart, we announce the death of the rock and roll band Pagan who passed away peacefully in their home of Melbourne today, aged seven glorious years,” reads a statement on the band’s page.

“The band leave behind a cult of beautiful followers and friends, a critically acclaimed album; Black Wash and memories of some of the wildest tours, shows, parties, late nights and dance floors imaginable; vivid to some, vague to many, but fond to all.”

“The Pagan family (sister, Nikki Brumen and brothers, Matthew Marasco, Xavier Santilli and Daniel Bonnici) would like to extend its truest thanks and praise to the wonderful team of exceptional individuals; booking agents, record labels, publicists, recording engineers, visual artists, promoters and managers who believed in the band enough to want to play a part in keeping the band alive and well for so long.

Each of you have been instrumental in developing the band’s music, ideas and messages to reach some unimaginable heights and places that only existed in their dreams.”

Pagan formed in 2013 and released their ferocious debut album Black Wash back in 2018. The self-described “late night death disco” outfit blended audacious rock and punk energy with dark, theatric aesthetics, and were arguably one of the country’s more interesting heavy live acts.

They’ll be performing one final show which is set to be announced later this evening.
