Metallica Just Pledged $750K To Bushfire Relief Services In Australia

Metal legends Metallica have taken to Twitter to share their support for bushfire relief efforts in Australia, pledging $750,000 AUD to the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) along with Country Fire Authority (CFA) in Victoria.

“We are totally overwhelmed by the news of the wildfires sweeping through millions of acres across Australia, with major impact in New South Wales and Victoria,” wrote the band earlier today.

“The resulting destruction and devastating effects on all residents, animals, the environment and the incredible land in Australia is truly heartbreaking.”

The thrash icons are the latest artists to dig deep to address the emergency. Last weekend, Pink pledged $500K to bushfire relief, while earlier today it was announced that Sir Elton John – currently in Australia on his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour – would donate $1 million to efforts,

“To see what is happening here breaks my heart, and so we have to come together and we have to fight,” commented Sir Elton at his show in Sydney last night.

“This is my bit towards it, and I love Australia so much. To those who have lost their homes, God bless, I hope that your life will be repaired very, very soon. I want to say thank you Australia again, and God bless.”
