IDLES Cover ‘The God That Failed’ For Metallica Tribute Album

IDLES have joined the likes of Biffy Clyro, Phoebe Bridgers, Weezer and Miley Cyrus in being part of the expansive Metallica tribute record, The Metallica Blacklist.

The 52 track record celebrates the 30th anniversary of The Black Album, with a whole range of artists taking on their favourite cut from it.

And while we’ve heard takes on popular Metallica songs like ‘Enter Sandman’ and ‘Nothing Else Matters’, IDLES decided to put their spin on Metallica’s ‘The God That Failed’.

The original was never released as a single, but still stacks up when The Black Album is listened to even now, in its entirety.

The Metallica Blacklist is set for release on September 10th. In a nice twist, proceeds from each track on the record will be going towards Metallica’s All Within My Hands foundation, as well as a charity 0f each artist’s choice.

For IDLES, their charity is the U.K.’s Trussell Trust; an initiative that supports a national network of food banks, providing emergency food and support for those in need.

Metallica’s All Within My Hands foundation goes towards ‘creating sustainable communities supporting workforce education, the fight against hunger and other critical local services’.

Launched back in 2017, the foundation has been involved in a range of charitable efforts, most recently donating USD $50,000 toward Haiti’s earthquake relief.
