A magnitude 6.0 earthquake has given Melburnians a shaky start to the day.
According to Geoscience Australia, the quake originated near the town of Mansfield in the foothills of the Victorian Alps, approximately 180 kilometres northeast of the city centre. But it was felt all through the city.
My own building shook and then shook again and the panic was immediate, with most residents fleeing out onto the street. The question on everyone’s lips was, “Was that an earthquake?” Premier Daniel Andrews has now confirmed that yes, indeed, it was.
Yes, that was an earthquake.

Many musicians based in Melbourne and surrounds have shared their reactions on Twitter.
“Wtf there just an earth quake here !!??” said rapper 360. “No cause for alarm, brother. Just your regular earthquake,” said Briggs.
“Oop was that a lil earthquake ?!?” asked Kira Puru, while Seth Sentry tried to paint it in a positive light: “Hell yeah, earthquake to start the day let’s go!”
“Ok, so that wasn’t just me,” wrote Something For Kate’s Paul Dempsey. As for Bob Evans, aka Jebediah’s Kevin Mitchell, he was too busy snoozing with his pup to notice.
