In today’s episode of “why has the world come to this?” Netflix has ordered a new animated series that features Elvis Presley – yes, Elvis “The King” Presley – as a part-time spy. Think Hannah Montana meets James Bond…or something like that.
According to Rolling Stone, the streaming giant has announced it is partnering with Priscilla Presley and John Eddie for the “adult action comedy series” titled Agent King. The show will see cartoon Presley tour America as a musician, just like the real Presley did, while also being a US government spy, just like the real Presley didn’t do.
“Elvis Presley trades in his white jumpsuit for a jet pack when he is covertly inducted into a secret government spy program to help battle the dark forces that threaten the country he loves — all while holding down his day job as the King of Rock and Roll,” the synopsis reportedly reads.
Priscilla Presley also gave a statement on why this show exists in the first place.
“From the time Elvis was a young boy he always dreamed of being the superhero fighting crime and saving the world!” she said.
“Agent King lets him do just that. My co-creator John Eddie and I are so excited to be working with Netflix and Sony Animation on this amazing project and getting the chance to show the world an Elvis they haven’t seen before.”
No word yet on when the show will air, but just know that it’s happening – whether we want it to or not.
