Norwegian Metal Legend Elected To Council Against His Will

Fenriz of Norwegian black metal band Darkthrone has been elected to his local city council despite running a campaign urging his townspeople not to vote for him.

He’s been gearing up for the release of his band’s new album Arctic Thunder, but now he’ll be required to serve as a Councilman for a minimum of four years.

He explained to Factmag that he agreed to join a backup list of candidates for his local council of Kolbotn in Oslo, Norway – when he was surprised by his own election.

“They called and asked if I wanted to be on the list,” he said. “I said yeah, thinking I would be like 18th on the list and I wouldn’t really have to do anything. They just need a list to be able to … well, it’s hard to talk local politics in another language.”

After being added to the list of candidates, Fenriz shared a picture of himself holding a picture of his cat, asking people not to vote for him – but it backfired and now he’ll have to go to council meetings when other Councillors pull out due to illness or injury.
