Odd Future’s Missing Member (Earl Sweatshirt) Found

Update: Earl Sweatshirt says he doesn’t need to be freed

Earl Sweatshirt, one of the members of the Los Angles based hip hop collective OFWGKTA has been tracked down to an all-boys military school Coral Reef Academy in Samoa. Sent there by his mother.

Earl (real name Thebe Kgositsile) who has been celebrated by prominent rappers and endorsed as an up and coming talent, was 15 years old when he recorded the material for his debut EP Earl and other Odd Future releases. But since then has disappeared from Odd future shows mysteriously.

The group had given some clues in the verses of their later material (“Ask Syd where we at. She’ll tell you where we going. To free Earl from the fucking Samoans.”) and given chants of “Free Earl” at their live shows, which had sparked further interest in the whereabouts of Earl.

Complex Magazine managed to track him down from the clues in the lyrics, facebook musings and by a student who is also attending the school. They also managed to get there hands on a photo of Earl, which was sent to them by David Huebner the US Ambassador to New Zealand and Samoa.

Tyler the Creator tweeted about the photo saying “That complex shit is false”. but band mate Mike G was more convinced saying “Fuck, that’s really him”.
