Peats Ridge Announce Sustainability Initiatives For 2010

Having once again taken out the ‘Best Achievement In Sustainability Award’ at the 2010 Australian Event Awards, Peats Ridge Festival have decided to build even further on their already impressive amount of environmental initiatives, announcing another wave of programs, further reinforcing their commitment to most sustainable event possible.

The only organisation in the Southern Hemisphere to be one of the founding members of The United Nations Music and Environment Initiative, named head of the Technical Solutions Taskforce, the festival have long led the field in terms of promoting sustainable events. Still regardless of all their achievements the organisers have decided they can do more, and will introducing a spree of new plans to further reduce the event impact on the environment, working from a broad approach to the industry and affecting change within it.

With the press release listing such activities as “engaging suppliers on key procurement issues such as biodiesel and reduced water use, presentations to the events industry, broader business and academia on sustainability issues and knowledge sharing through their online ‘Model Event’ portal,” as some of the ways the festival have spread their approach out into the industry, the organisers have also worked with other organisations such as The Garden of Earthly Delights – Adelaide Fringe Festival, The John Butler Trio Tour and NSW Department of Environment & Climate Changes Hospitality Sustainability Advantage Cluster Group this year alone, also collaborating with the NSW Department of Environment Climate Change and Water in benchmarking best practice standards across the industry.
