Having just released their debut album, Saturday Aquatic Pixie Acid on Sensory Projects, the album receiving widespread critical acclaim for it’s demented fuzzed out take on all things psychedelic and noisey, Melbourne weird merchants Pets With Pets will be playing at Dirty Shirlows in Marrickville this Friday June 10th in commemoration of the event, bringing with them a truly epic line-up of talent both local and from across the border.
Filling the main support slot is kinetic psychedelic three piece Dark Bells, with Melbourne electronic wizard Qua making a very special last minute appearance. Local purveyors of anthemic pop, and fast rising stars of the Sydney scene Reckless Vagina are popping their heads in as well, with the fantastic Mere Women rounding out the night.
Wowing audiences when they played Double Dragon III earlier this year, as well as more recently as part of their tour in support of their Home On The Wave split 7″ with label mates Love Connection, Pets With Pets are fast proving themselves as one of the best exports from south of the border in quite a while. Frontman Zayd Thring‘s (Towels) nasal voice and generally whacked out playing style, matched with the tumultuous and relentless rhythm section that is Ash Buscombe (Witch Hats) and Jonothan Edmonds (Coconuts) delivers a truly unique live experience, the transcendental nature of it heighten by the bands spasmodic lighting and bubble machines.
The show is part of a larger east coast tour in support of the album, which will see the band visit Newcastle on Saturday June 11th for the Winter Chills Festival at The Croatian Club after hitting up the good ol SYD, then heading back down to Melbourne to play The Tote on June 18th going on to hit up Hobart at the Brisbane Hotel on Friday 24th June and in Brisbane at the Lofly Hangar on Saturday 2nd July. Supports for non-Sydney dates to be announces soon.
