Posthumous Nick Weaver Project ‘Salmon Brothers’ Launches With New LP Announcement

Introducing Salmon Brothers, the posthumous project of late Deep Sea Arcade co-founder, Nick Weaver. Spawned as a joke between Weaver and his muso mate Nick Meredith (after the pair accidentally wore matching salmon-coloured blazers one fateful night) Salmon Brothers managed to secretly record a plethora of music prior to 37-year-old Weaver’s tragic death back in 2021.

This year, surviving Salmon Brother Meredith is honouring his late mate’s legacy with the release of the duo’s debut single ‘Fools Can’t Tell No Lies’ (listen below), as well as the announcement of a forthcoming album.

Dubbed More To Love, the  posthumous LP and heartfelt tribute to the local music legend’s legacy is due to arrive on Friday, 16th August (pre-order it here).

Speaking on how their connection grew through music, Nick Meredith says in a press statement: “the more we got to know each other the more we started to share our taste in music. We spent hours chatting about 70s disco, reading articles about how their songs were made, trying to dissect the work. But it took a year or so before we actually wrote any music together.”

He continues: “We had so many plans and dreams for the band and it’s ironic that we started Salmon Brothers as a joke to recover from the music industry, only for it to be the vehicle to pull us back into it. For me, this music is about sharing joy and time with a great friend. It’s about not taking things too seriously because you never know what life is going to throw at you. There are so many horrible things happening in the world and I hope Salmon Brothers can be a small ray of sunshine in someone’s life just as it was in mine.”

Nick Weaver was a Sydney-based musician best known as the co-founder, bassist and guitarist for Deep Sea Arcade, an indie-pop band who reached international heights, touring the world and playing festivals like The Great Escape and Primavera Sound.

In 2021, three years after the release of their critically acclaimed sophomore album, Blacklight, Nick tragically lost his battle with a rare form of bowel cancer at the age of 37.

“It’s been a journey filled with laughter, tears, and moments of profound inspiration,” Meredith adds. “Nick Weaver’s passing left a void in our lives, but his music remains a beacon of hope and light for all who listen.”
