This year’s annual Helpmann Awards took place in Sydney this week, with Powderfinger and Leonard Cohen among the major winners.
The now-defunct Brisbane troupe won the gong for Best Australian Contemporary Concert for their Sunsets: The Farewell Tour which the band completed last year.
Cohen, meanwhile, picked up the award for Best International Contemporary Concert, the accolades going to Cohen and the Frontier Touring Company.
The prize for Best Contemporary Music Festival went to Splendour in the Grass, fresh in the minds of fans after last weekend, while Tim Minchin received the award for Best New Australian Work.
The Helpmann Awards are designed to “recognise distinguished artistic achievement and excellence in the many disciplines of Australia’s vibrant live performance sectors, including musical theatre, contemporary music, comedy, opera, classical music, theatre, dance and physical theatre.”
The awards ceremony was held in Sydney on Monday night. A full run down of winners from the night can be found at the Helpmann website.
