PREMIERE: Dalli Weaves Lush Production With Raw Emotion On ‘Blood’

Originally based in Brisbane, songwriter Dalli released debut single ‘Who Are You’ back in 2017, a deceptively dark piece of music that set the groundwork for the artist’s growth over the next couple of years – affecting indie rock with richly-layered electronic elements. He decided to pursue music more intently a short time later, moved from Brissy to Melbourne, and started experimenting with his craft while busking full-time in the city’s CBD.

The songwriter made a big impression back in April this year with the single ‘Taken By The Sky’, and he’s now returned to follow it up with the stunning ‘Blood’. An affecting track, it weaves a relatively sparse yet gorgeous textural instrumental backdrop of electronics and guitar with raw, emotional vocals. Musically, it’s in the same ballpark as some of the more melancholic Bon Iver or Vance Joy cuts.

According to Dalli, the evocative ‘Blood’ is about “sticking by someone even when everyone else has cut ties and closed the door on them. It’s for a family member of mine who I love, but have really struggled to trust and forgive over the years. It’s about learning the hardships of unconditional love.”

The track was recorded at Dalli’s own home studio in Melbourne, mixed and co-produced by John Castle (Vance Joy, Thelma Plum) before being mastered by Don Bartley (Crowded House, Missy Higgins.)
