Melbourne punk freakazoids Private Function are keeping up their tradition of unorthodox album titles, announcing the imminent arrival of their fourth studio LP, literally titled ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ .
Featuring such titillatingly titled tracks as ‘Shit’, ‘Fuck’, Fck Me Dead’, ‘Sucked In F*ckhead’ and ‘Dumpster Diving Scrap Slut’, the whopping 19-track ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ is due to smack us in the ear drums on Friday, 23rd May.
PRIVATE FUNCTION – ‘KOALA’
This announcement comes spiced with our first lick of the album, a pseudo-sonic pivot for PF dubbed ‘Koala’ (stream above), which vocalist Chris Penney describes as “a song about hugging the ones you love and holding them as tight as you can for as long as life lets you”.
The album’s artwork is also very on brand, in being as bonkers as the music itself. Following on from their last LP’s somewhat controversial scratchie design, ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ will feature the world’s first microscopic album cover, composed of no less than 2,590 individual record covers designed by Bootleg Comics. Each physical copy will also include a custom-built magnifying glass, letting fans dive deep into the artwork, one tiny cover at a time.
Summed up as “a celebration of the harsh and never-ending absurdity of modern life”, Private Function’s new 19-track record reportedly includes sea shanties, folk songs and a six-minute electronic tour de force alongside the usual tongue-in-(butt)-cheek punk fair.
You can pre-order it right here from Wednesday, 23rd April.
