ORIGINAL STORY: Multiple artists have pulled out of Earthcore festival amid claims that they and several other acts have failed to receive promised payments on time.
Israeli DJs Coming Soon and Danish artist Phaxe have both announced they’re pulling out of the festival due to problems with the event’s promoters, while festival organisers revealed on Facebook that Israel-based Bliss has also cancelled his appearance at the Queensland leg of Earthcore.
As Junkee Media points out, in the same Facebook comment, Earthcore organisers claimed Bliss and Coming Soon had cancelled their 2018 appearances at the QLD event due to being double booked, in direct opposition to Coming Soon’s claims that they pulled the plug due to not being paid.
“The reason for the cancellation is because the owner of this festival didn’t pay us until now and didn’t even book a flight,” say Coming Soon.
“We just have to mention that we never got treated like that ever in our 15 years in the industry and we will never work with this promoter ever again… we lost a lot of money from this issue.”
Coming Soon claim organisers had threatened to cancel the gig if they weren’t patient, and go on to say promoters knew of the financial issues a while ago. Coming Soon also allege organisers knew they couldn’t pay all the artists, yet made no indication of issues “in order to gain more ticket sales”.
Coming Soon also suggested that more artists may still pull out of the event.
While not specifically mentioning a lack of (or late) payment, Phaxe also blames organisers for his cancellation, claiming that they failed to “fufill the terms of our agreement”.
Earthcore 2018 is set to kick off in just a couple of days time in Victoria, followed by smaller Earthcore events in NSW, QLD and WA.
Music Feeds has contacted Earthcore organisers for comment.
