18-year-old Sydney TikTok star Mia Rodriguez has released a new single today. ‘BEAUTIFUL & BITTERSWEET’ marks the ethereal pop star’s third single and it’s really cool.
“The title of the song is pretty self-explanatory,” Mia Rodriguez explains.
“It’s written about a toxic relationship (or friendship!) that you can’t seem to escape because the good times seem to pull you back in.
“I wrote it about some of my past experiences and it seems to be a problem no one really talks about. It is really hard to cut people out of your life, so I hope this song can be a little push into realising that you need some self-care and cut those people off baby!”
Rodriguez co-wrote the track with Dave Hammer. He’s worked with the likes of Lime Cordiale and Thundamentals in the past. Mia actually made her debut performance as an opening act for Lime Cordiale, as part of their Youtube Live Sessions.
Which is fitting, given her E-Girl aesthetic. Chatting to triple j about it, Mia Rodriguez said, “I grew up watching a lot of Tim Burton movies with my dad, it’s a nice memory. It’s really inspired me a lot, especially the stripes and colours.”
She first started getting recognition as an early adopter of TikTok, where she has 2 million followers. She soon became a triple j Unearthed Feature Artist for her debut single ‘Emotion’.
