Puddle of Mudd lead vocalist Wes Scantlin was taken into custody after a highly dramatic standoff with cops. The incident occurred after the vocalist had been stopped in Burbank, California, for a traffic violation. According to TMZ, during the stop, officers discovered an outstanding warrant for Scantlin related to a prior incident at an airport involving a weapon.
According to reports, when the police asked Scantlin to get out of his Hummer H2, he refused. This caused the responding officers to look for help from a crisis negotiator. With multiple requests to no avail, the officers still witnessed resistance from Scantlin, so they used pepper spray on him to try and get compliance in hopes of a resolution.
Wes Scantlin Arrested After Police Standoff
According to TMZ, even after pepper spray had been deployed on him, Scantlin refused to exit his car. It was now that SWAT members had to be summoned and break the car window, firing non-lethal pepper balls to get him out of the vehicle.
Mr. Scantlin was transported to the hospital for rinsing his eyes with water following the standoff. He was subsequently arrested on charges related to the outstanding warrant and for resisting arrest. Scantlin’s court date is on the 20th of August.
This incident is not the first legal hullabaloo that Scantlin has been in. Back in 2017, he was arrested for reportedly trying to board a flight at Los Angeles’ LAX Airport with a BB gun en route to Texas.
Despite his ongoing legal problems, Puddle of Mudd’s music somehow continues to enjoy a following. The band’s hit songs like “Blurry” and “Stoned” cemented their place in the rock music scene.
As Scantlin prepares to go to court, it seems like a replay of his troubled history with the law. This definitely will keep fans and viewers on tenterhooks as they all wait to see how this newest legal drama will unfold.
