Queen guitarist Brian May has confirmed that he will be collaborating with Korean popstar PSY, with the legendary axeman saying that he thinks the Gangnam Style rapper is a “significant artist”.
The 65-year-old told MTV News UK that the pair recently met up for brunch to talk about the possibility of making beautiful music together:
“I met the guy and we had a very interesting chat. He’s a very thoughtful man and a significant artist. He’s also encyclopaedic about Queen and says the reason he wanted to sing is because he saw Queen at Wembley ’86 on video. We have a couple of ideas, so yeah, I’m up for it.”
Seems flattery will get you everywhere, hey? May is already feeling the backlash from Queen fans, saying, “I’ve had all sorts of people tweeting me saying ‘How could you do that? He’s a popstar!’ and thinking it’s very trivial, but 1.6 billion hits on YouTube you don’t get for nothing.”
May also confirmed that Queen will be again working with Adam Lambert after the band played 3 sold-out shows with the singer as their frontman last summer. The guitarist said they’re not talking about touring but potentially doing something for television. “He’s an amazing artist and a very nice guy. We keep in touch and have a good friendship.”
