Relive Bon Iver’s Stunning Opera House Performance

Let’s face it, ever since Justin Vernon and the rest of Bon Iver finished up touring their self titled 2011 debut LP, chances to see the group’s legendary live show in the flesh have been few and far between.

When they do happen though, they’re pretty special occasions.

And this was very true of the group’s recent CERCLE performances at the Sydney Opera House as part of Vivid LIVE. And in case you don’t believe us, the official footage from the show has just been posted online, so you can check for yourself. Here’s a bit of a spoiler though: it’s not your standard show.

Forming a communal and intimate circle on stage, the band give a powerful and moving a capella performance of their song Heavenly Father, in this first video:

Don’t worry though, they do eventually pick up their instruments for some normal run-throughs of Creature Fear and Michicant:

One of the few performances the band are scheduled to give this year (their only remaining performance scheduled for the rest of the year being the Justin Vernon-curated Eaux Claires festival) this was truly a special run of shows, and we were lucky to have them:
