Run The Jewels’ El-P Drops A PokéRap After A Series Of Offensive Pokémon GO Tweets

Pokémon GO has absolutely exploded over the past week or so, with its launch in Australia and New Zealand followed by most other countries worldwide over the weekend.

US metalcore band Issues even performed a Pokémon-themed set at Vans Warped Festival on Saturday.

Though despite the warning to keep an eye on your surroundings that comes with the game, many have been predicting that it’s only a matter of time before some unlucky Pokémon trainer walks into a river or off a cliff trying to find that rare, illusive Pikachu.

El-P from Run The Jewels definitely thinks so, tweeting, perhaps absentmindedly, that he’d “chuckle” to himself “the second one of you gets hit by a car”. Thus incurring the wrath of the Poké-loving community.

Pokémon fans responded in kind, with pretty much the entire Pokémon community pretty incensed at the comments. Beginning to realise where he went wrong, El-P tried to reason with them saying “if in 1 year someone doesnt get seriously hurt playing that shit ill personally attempt to become a pokemaster.”

Then after more backlash, he finally issued an apology; “i will be reaching out to leaders of the pokemon community. listening. understanding. improving myself and my capacity for empathy.”

This was followed by the release of Pokémon rap, before he challenged others to do the same to win a free t- shirt and hoodie. Entries began to flood in, and you can listen to some of them – and check out the El-P’s series of tweets below.
