We’ve been waiting a long minute for the fourth album from Run the Jewels, the hip-hop duo of Killer Mike and El-P. Their most recent full-length outing was 2016’s RTJ3, and fans have understandably been antsy for its follow-up.
Now, the pair have taken to Instagram to share the first taste of the new album with a track called ‘Yankee and the Brave’. It’s classic Run the Jewels, with Mike and El-P trading rapid-fire verses over a hard-hitting instrumental, managing to pack quite a lot into the track’s two and a half minute runtime.
As for when we’ll be hearing the new album whole, it’s a little unclear. El-P shared the news at the start of the year that RTJ4 would see the light of day before the band’s (now-cancelled, obviously) Coachella set in April. However, in an Instagram post yesterday, the rapper says they “don’t know yet” when the album will be dropping.
On Twitter, he confirmed that, like every other album the group have released, RTJ4 will be available in “all the normal places” along with as a free download. “This is for anyone who who doesn’t feel like they have a budget for music right now or for anyone who isn’t sure they fuck with us yet,” he wrote.
Last year, the band teamed up with Danny Brown and JPEGMAFIA for ‘3 Tearz’, which featured on Brown’s fifth studio album uknowhatimsayin?
