Slew Of Hendrix Reissues On The Way

A new set of Jimi Hendrix live albums, along with DVDs and a box set, are due for release later this year. The releases mark the latest instalment of new Hendrix material that is out as a result of the eight-year, worldwide licensing deal agreed upon by Hendrix’s family and Sony in 2009.

The highlight of the new titles must be a new four-CD/eight-LP edition of Hendrix’s live record Live At Winterland, originally released in 1987 but recorded at the Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco in 1968 . As Exclaim note, the box set expands on the original 11-song set list with a whopping 24 additional songs, an audio interview with the great man and a 36-page booklet.

Also available among the new releases will be a reissue of the 1972 live album, Hendrix In The West. Again, available on CD and LP, this features five previously unheard performances along with a booklet containing rare and unseen photographs taken by snapper Jim Marshall.

In addition, Legacy Records, the subsidiary of Sony overseeing the project, will release two DVDs. The first is a reissue of the 2002 film Blue Wild Angel: Jimi Hendrix at the Isle of Wight, along with a collection of all of Hendrix’s appearances on the Dick Cavett show, entitled Jimi Hendrix: The Dick Cavett Show.

All of these things are due to get a US release on September 13.

In addition, it seems Hendrix’s version of Bob Dylan’s Like A Rolling Stone, as performed at the Winterland concert, will get a release as a single in August, a release that also features Purple Haze.
