After almost 17 years of waiting, Slipknot fans will finally hear the masked hellraisers’ long-lost 2008 album Look Outside Your Window this year.
The elusive record has been in mothballs since it was recorded, with its prolonged release date marred by much teasing and plenty of delays.
Slipknot – ‘Psychosocial’
Maggots have been growing increasingly frustrated, after Shaun ‘Clown’ Crahan first teased that the record would finally hit our ears back in 2023, before the next two years elapsed with no peep of it.
However, in a fresh chat with NME just before the New Year hit, the custom percussionist has confirmed that 2025 will be the year we finally get to hear it.
“I did say it was going to be in 2024, and I gave it the best fight that I could…” Clown explained. “What I can tell you is that I showed Corey [Taylor, frontman] the final artwork two days ago. It is happening, but unfortunately, because of Christmas and New Year and the way business works, I can’t slide it in this year.”
“But you have my word, it’s out of my hands now,” he added. “It’s being moved on, the money has been spent and there is a plan. The management has it and it is coming out.”
Crahan continued: “I’m really pleased about it and happy to finally be rid of it! What’s nice though is that it isn’t a hype thing, it’s just something we did while we were doing other Slipknot albums. It was a very honest action to make music that wasn’t Slipknot, but utilized the skills of guys with no rules.”
He concluded: “I don’t know if it’s ‘good’, but I know that I love it. I make music for myself, but I hope that the people who waited and waited and waited think it was worth it too.”
The album was recorded at the same time as Slipknot’s fourth album All Hope Is Gone, which came out in 2008. Corey Taylor apparently tried to blend the albums into one, but the combination was deemed too jarring.
The LP was described as a more experimental offering from the metal icons, with Taylor later describing it as having more of a “rock vibe”, even going so far as to liken it to Radiohead.
While we continue to wait for it to reach our ears, Aussie maggots can catch Slipknot live this March, headlining Knotfest 2025 and a one-off sideshow in Adelaide.
