Fans left disappointed after Mos Def’s Sydney Soulfest no-show yesterday have been thrown a bone by the festival’s organisers, who are now offering cheap tickets to the hip hop artist’s sideshow tomorrow night at the Enmore Theatre. The catch? You’ll have to be able to prove you were actually there.
Soulfest made the announcement via their Facebook page this afternoon. “Discount ticket offer for all Sydney Soulfest ticket holders for tomorrow night’s Mos Def sideshow. Present your Soulfest hard-ticket or Soulfest ticket print-out at the box office tomorrow night at Enmore Theatre and receive a special $39 entry to the show.”
That works out to a roughly $40 saving on general admission ticket prices. It’s certainly an alternative if you’re really that keen on catching Mos Def and willing to risk another no-show. If you’re no longer in possession of your tickets, the festival notes that “a proof of purchase will do”.
Though the reaction to the news has been mostly positive, some are still clearly frustrated after the events of yesterday. “I paid $140 already, I don’t wanna pay another $39 plus travel expenses,” says one fan.
Yesterday Mos Def, aka Yasiin Bey, left many fans scratching their heads after cancelling his first performance as part of the inaugural Soulfest tour, announcing just hours before he was due to take the stage that he had missed a flight.
He’s got a history of cancelled performances in Australia, too, reducing a promoter to tears after going AWOL during his last Australian tour in 2011.
Details for tomorrow night’s headline sideshow are below.
