As if Western Australia’s Southbound Festival wasn’t looking awesome enough already, with acts like Peaches, Tash Sultana, Tkay Maidza and Hermitude on the lineup, there will now be circus, comedy and cabaret thrown into the mix.
The addition of ‘Commedia dell Southbound’ will be set in its very own big top, and will feature a curated array of performers both from Australia and from overseas.
It’s promising to be a hilarious, creative and kooky conglomeration of around a dozen acts performing over the three-day festival. Included in this posse will be UK-based Aussie comedian John Robertson, who is set to entertain with a world first live-video-game-meets-viral-internet-video called ‘The Dark Room’.
International DJ turned hypnotist Matt Hale will be running a world first interactive clubbing experience, ‘Clubnosis’, which exploits the natural trance-inducing qualities of house music. Hale recently sold out 35 shows at Fringe World Festival, and uses hypnotic techniques and sonic soundscape to guide your imagination towards bliss.
There’ll be some cheeky Bingo with Bingay and Barbie-Q, raucous Rock And Roll Karaoke with Magnus Danger Magnus, Tomás Ford AKA self-proclaimed Worst DJ in the World, plus a Naked Race around the Commedia Dell Southbound tent. There will also be burlesque and go-go dancing, and a ‘Comedian vs Rappers’ segment which is just as it sounds: scathing rap battles matched with hilarious comedy roasts.
Lots of delicious things to eat and drink under the shade of the big top will be on offer too, making it a perfect place to recuperate and nourish yourself mid-fest.
