Spotify Has Announced Its Most Streamed Artists Of 2016

Spotify has released its end of year charts and Drake has dominated, becoming the most streamed artist on the platform of all time.

Drizzy is the most streamed artist of the year clocking up 4.7 billion streams, driven by the success of his fourth album VIEWS which was released this year and spawned huge anthems like One Dance and Too Good. One Dance was also the most streamed song of the year while VIEWS was the most streamed album.

Rihanna, Kanye West and Justin Bieber follow behind Drake with the latter the only one not to release an album this year. Interestingly, Kanye didn’t even release his album The Life Of Pablo on Spotify immediately, leaving it as a TIDAL exclusive for almost a month.

Despite being released in 2015, Bieber’s Purpose was the second most streamed album of the year followed by Rihanna’s ANTI and Twenty One Pilots’ Blurryface, which was also released last year.

On the song front, Mike Posner’s comeback track I Took A Pill In Ibiza took home the silver for most streamed song with The Chainsmokers’ Don’t Let Me Down and Rihanna’s Work following closely behind.

Spotify also named ZAYN, the former One Direction singer, the breakthrough artist of the year. He released his debut record Mind Of Mine earlier this year and scored a hit with Pillowtalk.

The streaming platform will roll out more extensive end of year charts as part of their ‘2016 Wrapped’ series.
