‘The Tepid 100’ Is “Confident” It Has Predicted Triple J’s Hottest 100 Of 2015

With the unveiling of triple j‘s Hottest 100 of 2015 less than two weeks away, a Melburnian has put in days of spreadsheet work to collate The Tepid 100, a prediction of the Hottest 100 which might be more accurate than The Warmest 100, even if its name isn’t quite as hot.

By wading through Instagram posts under the Hottest 100 hashtag, university student Ed Pitt has collated over 2,000 ballots (totalling over 20,000 individual song votes) and has manually added them to some super-spreadsheets to come up with his Tepid 100. Why has he done this? “Because why should Richard Kingsmill have all the fun?”

Pitt tells Music Feeds he’s “confident” that the actual Hottest 100 of 2015 will “mostly resemble” his prediction, which puts Kendrick Lamar’s King Kunta at number one, followed by Hoops by The Rubens and The Less I Know The Better by Tame Impala.

“What’s really surprised me is how people (and Sportsbet) have hugely overestimated the position of [Major Lazer & DJ Snake’s] Lean On, and [Drake’s] Hotline Bling to a lesser extent, and underestimated the position of King Kunta,” Pitt says.

Compared to The Warmest 100, which collated 1,779 ballots (or 1.3% of votes) in 2013, Pitt says The Tepid 100 has collated 2,064 ballots, giving it a slightly larger sample. “The process took approximately 100 hours in total. Probably more like 110,” he says.

All votes shared using the Hottest 100 hashtag on Instagram between the start of voting and 6:55pm on 7th January were supposedly included in The Tepid 100’s prediction.

Pitt’s predictions come after “Hottest 100 enthusiast” Patrick Avenell published his predicted top 10 in November 2015 — a top 10 which he was also “very confident” with.
