Before Sia Furler was a favourite tunesmith of Britney Spears, Rihanna, and Beyonce, and before she was taking calculated strides to avoid fame at all costs, she was a little-known singer-songwriter looking for a break. That search took her all the way to the beaches of Summer Bay.
In a time known as the ’90s, when it was customary to wear white capri pants paired with a planet-patterned top, Sia appeared on an episode of Home & Away. Playing the part of wedding singer, Sia made a cameo to serenade Travis (Nic Testoni) and Rebecca’s (Belinda Emmett) beach wedding.
Flanked by two back-up singers, Sia performed an a capella rendition of How To Breathe, a song News.com.au report she’d written specifically for the show. Years later, her similarly titled recording Breathe Me would be used in the series finale of the critically acclaimed HBO series Six Feet Under.
Readers can check out Sia appear atop a sand dune after Travis and Rebecca are wedded by Mr Fisher before a crowd including Home & Away pillars Alf, Irene, and Ailsa, below. It’s a throwback to a time when the singer had only one independent album to her name and a really killer wardrobe.
