The Audreys Anounce First Album In A Decade, Share New Single And Tour

The Audreys have rolled out their comeback year with the formal announcement of their fifth album, Ruin & Repair, as well as sharing a new single from it and announcing an extensive national tour to launch it. The new album, their first in over a decade, arrives on Friday, March 21st and marks their first fully-independent album after leaving ABC Music. Tour information can be found below.

To coincide with the album’s announcement, the Adelaide folk band have shared a new song entitled ‘Beatles v. Stones‘. Taasha Coates, the band’s frontwoman and co-founder, explained that the song’s title stems from “one of the questions I like to ask people to work out if I’m going to like them or not”. “I’m firmly camp Stones, for the record,” she added. Coates also noted that this was the first Audreys song she had written on guitar, having only learned the instrument recently.

“I learned to play guitar during [lockdown] because I was so, so bored,” she said. “I was a piano player up until that point – plus I played a bit of ukulele, harmonica, melodica and various other small and silly instruments. At first I hated the guitar because it tore up my fingers and made my hand ache, but once I popped on my big-girl panties about the pain I loved how easy it was to write songs with.”

The Audreys – ‘Beatles v. Stones’

‘Beatles v. Stones’ is the second single to be lifted from Ruin & Repair, with the band sharing the lead single ‘Secondhand Boots’ in November 2024. The album will be released exactly 11 years and one week after the release of their previous album, Til My Tears Roll Away. Like all of the band’s albums prior, it was nominated for Best Blues & Roots Album at that year’s ARIA Awards. They followed up the album with a 13-minute, four part suite of songs dubbed ‘Monster’, released as the Monsters EP that July. The remainder of the decade, however, saw a reduction in the band’s activity.

Coates released a solo album in 2016, under the moniker of Taasha Coates And Her Melancholic Sweethearts. Co-founding guitarist Tristan Goodall, meanwhile, was diagnosed with cancer in the early 2020s and ultimately passed away from the illness in 2022 at the age of 48. Coates did, however, receive his blessing to continue The Audreys without him prior to his death.
