The Cure were inducted into the iconic Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame this week (by Nine Inch Nails, no less) but they weren’t too fussed about it tbh.
Fans are losing their sh*t over frontman Robert Smith’s quintessentially goth response to a reporter’s interview question on the ceremony’s red carpet.
When the interviewer cheerfully asked if The Cure were “as excited” as she was about their being inducted into the great Rock Hall, Smith responded stoically: “By the sounds of it, no.”
“This is why Robert Smith is God,” one fan responded on Twitter.
“This is the funniest start to an interview i have ever seen i love robert smith man,” wrote another.

Meanwhile, The Cure have also revealed more details about their “incredibly intense” upcoming new album.
The follow-up to 2008’s 4:13_Dream marks the band’s first LP in ten years, and from the way they’re talking, it’s going to be well worth the wait.
“It’s so dark. It’s incredibly intense,” Smith tells Rolling Stone.
“The songs are like 10 minutes, 12 minutes long. We recorded 19 songs. So I have no idea what to do now. The others are saying, ‘triple album!’ I’m saying, ‘no let’s not’. I’ll pick six or maybe eight songs and do like a single album,” he continues.
“But I think I will delight our hardcore fans. And probably really, really infuriate everyone else. At my age, I’m still doom and gloom.”
As for the disc’s release date, Smith adds: “I don’t know, October? Halloween! Come on!”
While you wait for it to land, you can catch The Cure performing their iconic album Disintegration live in Sydney this May as part of the 2019 program for VIVID Live.
