The Gum Ball Announces Dates For 10th Anniversary Event, April 2014

Hailed as one of the last family-friendly two-day festivals left in Australia, The Gum Ball has announced its glorious return for 2014, locking in dates a tad earlier than previous years, but a welcome move nonetheless.

This year will see the event sprawled out over the first weekend of the April school holidays, making it a no-brainer for families looking to get away from the hustle and bustle.

Making this year all the more special for organisers and punters alike, 2014 will see The Gum Ball celebrate its 10th Birthday. It’s been a rough year for boutique festivals in Australia, but The Gum Ball has weathered every storm that’s hit over the past decade, storms festivals four times the size sadly didn’t make out it of.

Organiser Matt Johnston explained that the festival’s resilience in a hostile market can be attributed to its unique atmosphere and family-friendly nature, saying:

“It’s been a roller coaster of passion, fatigue, joy and hindsight. In the end though, the reason we keep putting The Gum Ball on is for the people that come to the festival and make it what it is…People have become ‘festival experts’- they go to so many events they begin to realise what they want in their down time. In our experience people are seeking comfort, serenity and uncomplicated set-ups to help them enjoy good music, making for good times”.

Punters can expect the lineup to be announced mid-December, with the roster set to embody the event’s eclectic history of performers. Over the years The Gum Ball stages have been graced by the likes of Mia Dyson, Regurgitator, Tumbleweed, Redgum, The Beards, Jinja Safari, Saskwatch and many more.

Organisers have stated that next year’s lineup will also include some “fresh long-awaited inclusions.”
