The Mess Hall: New Single “Bell” out September 15th + October Shows

Blazing Sydney duo The Mess Hall release the first track from their new album, “Bell”, a cracking, swinging, fuzzed-out bass lope of a number on September 15th. “Bell” is the first new track to emerge from the band since their AMP Award winning album of 2007, “Devil’s Elbow”, and it sees the band moving forward with a southerly bluster at their back towards a swinging new brand of beatnik soul, with each song infused with a gritty kind of beauty and sense of experimentation.

The new album from which the track is taken, “For The Birds” sees the light of day on November 13th.

The opening drum salvo and keyboard bass fuzz of “Bell” is the perfect introduction to the mood of the record, infused with a new sense of swing in the playing and experimentation in the production (courtesy once again of Mr Burke Reid), all set in the context of the strongest set of songs the band have yet recorded, melodically and lyrically.

The band are delighted to announce that they will play three very special shows in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane in October to introduce “Bell” to the world, and give a taste of other tracks from “For The Birds”. In addition they will, of course, be playing all the greats from albums past. The Mess Hall have a justly deserved reputation as one of Australia’s greatest live acts, so needless to say, these shows will sell out after the band’s extended break from playing shows.
