Hear The Strokes’ Julian Casablancas Cover Two Velvet Underground Classics

Julian Casablancas has publicly been a huge fan of The Velvet Underground throughout his career and always had a special affinity with frontman Lou Reed. Upon hearing the news of Lou Reed’s death Casablancas tweeted an emotional tribute “Lou Reed is the reason I do everything that I do”.

The Strokes’ frontman has now paid further tribute to the late rocker via two faithful covers for HBO’s 1970s music drama Vinyl. Last month we heard a rework of Run Run Run, and now he’s put his own personal touch on Lou Reed’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Animal live album version of White Light White Heat.

Vinyl has had less-than-amazing reviews from television critics, but the soundtrack is shaping up as an epic showcase of rock music. Iggy Pop, The Kill’s Alison Mosshart and Dan Auerbach’s The Arch’s have all been part of musical contributions to the show to date.

The full soundtrack can be purchased from iTunes. Listen to Casablancas’ contributions, below.
