This ‘Kanye Horseman’ Mashup Is Surprisingly Wonderful

Earlier this month US-based streaming service Netflix released the series BoJack Horseman, their first foray into the world of adult animation, complete with a theme penned by The Black Keys drummer Patrick Carney. Now, one expect SoundCloud user has transformed that synthy number by mashing it up with a Kanye West hit. The results are wonderful.

On the track, which you can and must stream below, expert remixer Mitch Marzuola masterfully layers Kanye’s 2007 hit Can’t Tell Me Nothing over what was already a very un-Carney sounding theme song, imbuing the wailing choral arrangements, strings, saxophone and dub-style drums with all kinds of aggressive Yeezy swagger.

While Kanye, who was just in the country for a series of arena shows, has been teasing a follow up to 2013’s Yeezus for some time now, we have yet to hear anything other than a bootlegged two-minute snippet of a track titled All Day.

In August he told GQ, that while in the studio he decided to change direction after recording “a new song that’s so good that the album has to be balanced against it.” No word on whether Patrick Carney, Netflix, or Will Arnett, the voice behind the anthropomorphic horse slash man BoJack Horseman, had any involvement in that.

Carney himself will be in the country in 2015 with Black Keys bandmate Dan Auerbach as they headline Bluesfest 2015, the inaugural Rolling Green festival as well as their own Turn Blue Australian tour.
