Tones & I On Track To Break Longstanding ARIA Charts Record With ‘Dance Monkey’

It’s hard to think of an Aussie artist in recent memory that has had such a quick and meteoric rise to international recognition like Tones And I has, and now she’s on track to break a longstanding ARIA Charts record held by the queen herself, Kylie Minogue.

This week sees Tones And I’s monstrous runaway hit ‘Dance Monkey’ spend its seventh week atop the ARIA Singles Chart, which means she has tied for the record of longest running #1 by an Aussie female.

The record was set by Minogue with her debut single ‘Locomotion’ back in 1987. The longest running #1 to feature an Aussie female artist is Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta’s Grease classic ‘You’re The One That I Want.’

But, as ‘Dance Monkey’ continues to trend and soar worldwide, it seems unlikely that the song will be knocked off the top spot next week, meaning that Tones & I would break the record.

The multi-hyphenate is set to play the AFL Grand Final in a few weeks, alongside the legendary Paul Kelly.
