There’s been an outpouring of grief from the music world after American musician Dave Deporis was killed while chasing after a thief who stole his laptop, which allegedly contained all of his music.
As SFGate reports, the beloved local muso was sitting outside a local cafe when someone snatched his computer and took off in an SUV.
Deporis reportedly gave chase on foot, grabbing onto the side of the mobile getaway car in a desperate attempt to get his music back.
The 40-year-old was dragged along the road and then run over by the fleeing thief, being pronounced dead at a nearby hospital a short time later.
Police have yet to make any arrests in relation to the horrific incident.
Meanwhile, Deporis is being remembered as an “experimental Bob Dylan”, who would often “throw singer-songwriter conventions to the wind in the pursuit of his art”.
High-profile artists including Regina Spektor, Anohni and Kimya Dawson have taken to social media to pay tribute to his memory. View their tributes, below.
