Vic Mensa says he’ll be in Australia early next year, putting the Chicago rapper in the running for possible appearances at Laneway Festival, Falls Festival, or on a headline tour. The 2014 XXL Freshman recently appeared at Lollapalooza, cited by many as a highlight of the weekend.
“Definitely I’ll be in Australia around the top of next year,” Mensa told Triple J‘s The Doctor. “I’m super excited for it. I keep hearing that Australia is super turnt up and that I won’t wanna leave. That’s what Danny Brown told me.” Fellow rapper Brown performed during Laneway’s 2014 instalment and recently returned Down Under for a spot at Splendour In The Grass 2014.
Mensa also took some time to talk up his latest single, Down On My Luck, which comes ahead of the rapper’s debut full-length, Traffic. “I got a lot of music. Definitely know that I got a lot for y’all, I’m super excited about it,” he said, before sharing some of the big-name collaborators set for the LP.
“I was just in the studio with Mark Ronson in London, so hopefully I’ll be in the studio with him some more,” said the rapper. “I’m hoping to get in with my guy Damon Albarn of Blur and the Gorillaz, we just did some shows recently. I’m working with a cat named Duke Dumont. Mostly though I’m self-contained. My records are my records, and I bring people in to help me with ’em.”
Last month, Music Feeds reported on a possible Laneway 2015 leak after News Corp journalist Mikey Cahill tweeted that FKA Twigs had been confirmed for the event. German duo Milky Chance put themselves in the running for Laneway back in June, teasing a festival tour for early next year.
