Irish folk band Villagers were recently announced as part of this year’s massive Splendour In The Grass lineup and now the band are giving some love to those who couldn’t score tickets to the festival. The project spearheaded by Dublin troubadour Conor O’Brien has previously visited Australia as a 2-piece but their Splendour appearance and subsequent sideshows sees the first time the outfit have toured as a full band.
After taking home an Ivor Novello Award as well as a Mercury Music Prize nom for debut Becoming a Jackal in 2010, Villagers released their highly anticipated sophomore effort {Awayland} back in January to instant acclaim. The latest album sees O’Brien delegate musical responsibility to the band after handling instrumental duties on the debut all on his ownsome.
This morning has seen a flurry of Splendour In The Grass sideshows announced, with Of Monsters And Men and Darwin Deez both heading to Sydney and Melbourne after their appearances in Byron – good thing too, considering that SITG is now completely sold out apart from a few uber exclusive, uber pricey Country Club tickets. Other Splendour sideshows expected to be announced in the coming weeks include Haim, Babyshambles, James Blake, Fidlar, Jake Bugg and Everything Everything.
All tickets to Villagers’ Splendour sideshows are on sale now.
