Watch A 23-Year Old Lizzo Covering Adele On Her Home Webcam Back In 2011

The internet has done what it does best, unearthing early video recordings Lizzo, then aged around 23, posted to her YouTube account in the early 2010s.

Most prominently, she covers the Adele classic ‘Someone like You’, singing the track and performing it on piano. The video was posted September 30th 2011 to her YouTube channel “lizzomusic” – which has just under 900 subscribers.

“Hey! Bored & playing around with music again,” writes Lizzo in the video’s caption. “Found the chords and decided to have some fun. Thanks for watching! :)”

Elsewhere, Lizzo plays a flute accompaniment to the Jay Z and Alicia Keys collab ‘Empire State of Mind’.

The videos are great, and there’s something very cool about seeing an artist’s early endeavours and how much they’ve grown since that point.

Lizzo is, of course, currently enjoying a wave of success after third album Cuz I Love You was released back in May. She delivered an absolutely stunning NPR Tiny Desk concert last week, and she’s headed to Australia early next year as part of the FOMO Festival lineup.

It’s pretty wild, then, to have recently learned that she nearly quit music two years ago when single ‘Truth Hurts’ initially flopped in the charts. In an interview with People, Lizzo told an interviewer “I remember thinking, ‘If I quit music now, nobody would notice. This is my best song ever, and nobody cares.'”

Rallied by her producer, publicist and family, Lizzo pushed forward, leading us to today. Thank god.
