Watch Eddie Vedder Break Down In Tears During Performance Of ‘Black’, “Dedicated To Chris Cornell”

An emotional Eddie Vedder has just shattered our hearts with a tearful acoustic performance of Pearl Jam’s sombre ballad ‘Black’, which fans en masse are interpreting as a musical tribute to his fallen rock brother, Chris Cornell.

“Probably all of us at one time have been through the black,” Vedder told the crowd of thousands at the Firenze Rocks gig in Italy, before launching into the 1991 grunge hymn.

Vedder got more than just a little choked up in the middle of the song, and was unable to sing a few lyrics.

And although he never mentioned Cornell by name, fans posting footage of the heartbreaking performance on social media have all gleaned that the recently deceased Soundgarden frontman was at the forefront of Ed’s mind.

“I’m just speechless in front of Eddie Vedder literally bursting into tears while singing Black, clearly dedicated to Chris Cornell.” one fan tweeted.

“A moment of tears #eddievedder #chriscornell #tribute”, tweeted another.

Watch fan-shot footage of the performance below, and Chris Cornell fans would do well to keep a box of Kleenex handy because lord knows this song turns us all into an emotional wrecks at the best of times.
