Watch Kanye West’s Surprise Performance At Dave Chappelle’s NYC Gig

Dave Chappelle‘s nine-evening residency at New York City’s famed Radio City Music Hall is set to include a musical component featuring sets from The Roots, Janelle Monae, and more. It doesn’t start till next week, but that didn’t stop the ever-defiant Kanye West from making an appearance.

According to Complex, West made a surprise appearance at the comedian’s first headlining show in New York City in over a decade to perform his hits New Slaves, Jesus Walks, and Gold Digger, reportedly slipping offstage mid-way through his performance of the latter to rap in the crowd.

During a recent appearance on Jimmy Fallon, Chappelle recounted how he first met West, which was on the day that The Black Album was released. Chappelle said he, West, Common, and Talib Kweli were listening to the LP in a trailer and West demanded they rewind Jay-Z’s shout-out to him.

Later on, when the comedian was showing the divisive rapper early cuts of upcoming sketches for Chappelle’s Show, West answered a phone call by proclaiming, “I’m at the edit for the Chappelle’s Show watching sketches no one has seen before… because my life is dope and I do dope shit.”
