In a rare and logistically astonishing moment, spotlight shy Australian singer-songwriter Sia has taken to The Ellen DeGeneres Show‘s studio floor to recreate her powerful music video for Chandelier alongside her 11-year-old dance double, Dance Moms‘ Maddie Ziegler.
The original clip for Chandelier, which featured Ziegler’s now lauded dance routine, still sits high atop viral mountain and has racked up over 10 million views on YouTube in just under two weeks.
Ellen rightly notes that the performance the audience is about to witness is a special one, and deftly manoeuvres around the somewhat odd detail that Sia won’t be performing with her face to the camera.
Instead the Adelaide hitmaker, who’s worked with everyone from Rihanna Beyonce (though has never written a hit for Madonna, thanks, Ellen) — faces the corner of the set and belts out her big notes while Ziegler take over the visual element. Unsurprisingly, both singer and dancer nail the performance once again.
Check the clip, and the original video, below. Expect to be seeing both for a good while longer, at least for the remainder of Sia’s new album cycle. Her next LP 1000 Faces of Fear will drop in Australia in July.
