Icelandic post-rockers Sigur Rós made a sneaky appearance in yesterday’s episode of the HBO series Game Of Thrones, appearing as musicians playing for the always delightful King Joffrey.
During the episode’s instantly infamous ‘Purple Wedding’ scene, frontman Jón “Jónsi” Þór Birgisson sings quietly while his bandmates operate a pump organ, before Joffrey pelts him and his bandmates with coins and tells them to leave – to the laughter of the shindig’s guests.
The episode which featured the band also ended with their musical rendition of The Rains Of Castamere, a composition originally penned by series composer Ramin Djawadi, which the band unveiled in full only yesterday.
The band’s season four cameo was confirmed back in September 2013. Sigur Rós’ most recent album, Kveikur, was released in 2013.
