The life and legacy of Aretha Franklin is being remembered today, as her hometown of Detroit as welcomed her back in a funeral ceremony that’s fit for the queen she was, taking place at the Greater Grace Temple.
Of course, the world still mourns the loss of the Queen of Soul, who passed away last month at age 76, after battling pancreatic cancer.
It was a truly star-studded event, featuring some absolutely powerful performances from some of Aretha’s friends and some modern music stars.
Ariana Grande gave an impassioned and belting rendition of ‘(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman’ backed with gospel performers. This is the second time she’s performed the song publicly since Franklin’s passing, having performed it on The Tonight Show mere hours after the world found out that Franklin had passed.
Another monumental performance of the ceremony was at the hands and voice of Franklin’s close friend, Stevie Wonder. The 68-year-old music legend performed a stunning rendition of ‘The Lord’s Prayer’ and a moving performance of his own song, ‘As’.
You can watch both performances, as well as a full stream of the beautiful ceremony, below.
