Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation star Tom Cruise has proven that he doesn’t need a synthetic face to convincingly impersonate some of music’s biggest names.
The Hollywood actor has appeared on The Tonight Show to challenge host Jimmy Fallon to an epic lip sync battle, which sees him deliver a performance of The Weeknd’s chart smasher I Can’t Feel My Face with all the enthusiasm and gusto of an Oprah couch-jumping session.
Fallon is then left quaking in his boots after Cruise threatens to launch into a verse of Bob Seger’s Old Time Rock And Roll, the theme song to his breakout movie Risky Business, which would have surely dealt the host a killing blow.
Thankfully, the actor keeps his pants on, and opts instead to deliver a rousing rendition of the Meatloaf classic Paradise By The Dashboard Light. Cruise performs both the male and female parts of the 1977 theatrical rock duet with terrifying levels of commitment, convincingly portraying lovers about to get down and dirty in the backseat of a jaloppy.
Despite Fallon’s best Mick Jagger impersonation, his mission to upstage Cruise proves, well, you know.
So instead of proceeding with the battle, the pair join forces to floor audience members with a lip sync duet of the Righteous Brothers’ classic from the Top Gun soundtrack, You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling, which Fallon generously dedicates to his favourite character, Goose.
Watch it all go down in the video, below.
The Tonight Show host, meanwhile, has yet to respond to a gauntlet thrown by Aussie rapper Ur Boi Bangz to challenge him to a rap battle.
We call chicken, Fallon.
