Yeah Yeah Yeahs have released their first new single since 2013. ‘Spitting Off The Edge Of The World’ is out now via Secretly Canadian. The track features guest vocals from Perfume Genius’ Mike Hadreas.
‘Spitting Off The Edge Of The World’ is the first taste of Karen O, Nick Zinner and Brian Chase’s upcoming fifth studio album, Cool It Down, an eight-track collection that’s due out on Friday, 30th September.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ most recent studio album, Mosquito, is now more than nine years old. All three band members have kept busy in the interim. Karen O released her debut solo album, Crush Songs, in 2014. In 2019, she teamed up with producer Danger Mouse on the cinematic psych rock record, Lux Prima.
Chase released the albums Drums & Drones (2013) and Drums & Drones II (2018), and has appeared on collaborative projects with Anthony Coleman and James Ilgenfritz. Zinner has been a gun for hire on albums by Liam Gallagher, Phoebe Bridgers, Better Oblivion Community Center and Amen Dunes, and co-founded the band, Head Wound City, with members of the Blood Brothers and the Locust.
Next year, the New York City trio will celebrate the 20th anniversary of their debut album, Fever to Tell. Their second album, Show Your Bones, came out in 2006; album three, It’s Blitz, arrived in 2009.
‘Spitting Off The Edge Of The World’ is the opening track on Cool It Down. Watch the official music video below, which also features Perfume Genius’ Mike Hadreas.
