Watch HAIM Revamp Adam Sandler’s ‘Chanukah Song’

As part of their annual Hanukkah celebrations onlie, HAIM have brought Adam Sandler‘s classic ‘The Chanukah Song’ – in which the comedian name-drops a long list of fellow Jewish celebrities such as David Lee Roth, Kirk Douglas, and Henry Winkler – into the present with a revamped cover.

Sharing their version to social media, the sister trio update the notable names to include some of their contemporaries. “Maya Rudolph lights the menorah, so does Japanese Breakfast and the Dessners do the hora,” they sing, referencing the actor along with songwriter Michelle Zauner along with Aaron and Bryce Dessner of The National.

Other celebs the band shout out in their version include Rashida and Kidada Jones and Eugene and Dan Levy, before pointing out that both Timothée Chalamet and Doja Cat are half-Jewish and paying tribute to the recently-departed Stephen Sondheim. “Sandler we love you,” the sisters captioned the post.

Sandler himself has since approved of the cover, sharing it on Twitter. “Love you ladies! You are three badass jews! See you on tour,” the comedian wrote. Watch their version below.

Last year, HAIM celebrated the season with a Hanukkah-oriented spin on The Waitresses’ 1981 song ‘Christmas Wrapping’, which reflected on the chaotic year that was 2020. Last year also saw the band release their third album, Women in Music Pt. III.

Alana Haim, meanwhile, stars in Paul Thomas Anderson’s latest film Licorice Pizza, which is set to premiere in Australian cinemas on Boxing Day.
