Super American Eagle

PREMIERE: Members of the Dandy Warhols, Courtney Barnett’s Band Join Forces as Super American Eagle

Super American Eagle is a new group consisting of Dandy Warhols drummer Brent DeBoer (who is based in Melbourne), longtime Courtney Barnett drummer Dave Mudie and DeBoer’s Immigrant Union bandmate, guitarist Bob Harrow. SAE formed on a trip to New York just prior to the pandemic, when the trio played an impromptu Immigrant Union show as a three-piece. They enjoyed playing together so much they decided to start a band.

The band, which sees DeBoer behind the kit, Mudie move to bass and Harrow on guitar and vocals, have now released their debut single ‘Yes’. It’s a frenetic, fuzzed-out cut that brings together elements of noise rock, pysch, shoegaze and sludge that starts off with a bang and doesn’t pull back, ending in a wailing, foot-stomping jam. We’re premiering the video for ‘Yes’ on Music Feeds.

Filmed by Alexander Francis and shot backstage at the Prince of Wales in St. Kilda, the black-and-white performance clip sees the trio match the chaotic energy of the track itself.

“From memory, ‘Yes’ was truly written by all three of us. You know how like U2 and Coldplay credit the entire band as writing the songs together? I reckon that’s bullshit sometimes,” Harrow says of the band’s debut single.

“The guitar riff [and] bass line and the drums came together and simultaneously the vocal melody and lyrics. A few weeks later we tracked it and had Sean Latino mix and master it. It would be sick if everything in life was that simple. It probably can be.”

Super American Eagle will launch ‘Yes’ with a free show at Shotkickers in Melbourne this Saturday, 16th July. They’ll be joined by the Laura Imbruglia Band and Cheeky B.
