Are Swedish House Mafia Reuniting In 2017?

UPDATE 28/10/16: Axwell has shut down rumours of a Swedish House Mafia reunion, tweeting that the original screenshot had been photoshopped.

ORIGINAL STORY: The end of Swedish House Mafia in 2013 was a devastating blow for fans of progressive house music, and now Axwell has sent those same fans into a frenzy with a cryptic tweet which could possibly be a sign that the group are reuniting in 2017.

It’s important to note that although there has been plenty of speculation since their breakup, and despite the fact that Axwell and Ingrosso have continued to work together, no member has previously suggested that a reunion might be on the cards.

But, as YourEDM points out, it’s this latest and since-deleted tweet from Axwell that’s sent the internet into meltdown. He tweeted a new logo which incorporates the Axwell Λ Ingrosso logo, but with a few added elements including an over-arching A, which has lead some to speculate that the group could reform with Alesso instead of Steve Angello as the third member.

“The countdown to the new era has begun,” said Axwell in the tweet. “Never is too late to get back on track…”

The other part of the post that’s got EDM fans excited is the date below the logo — 26th March, 2017. That date marks the Sunday of next year’s Ultra Music Festival, where Swedish House Mafia played their final set back in 2013.

Whatever the case, fans of SHM would do well to keep their eyes peeled for what’s to come. Whether there is to be a reunion of the old trio or not, it’s clear that something big is in the works.
